Of all the big-game hunting challenges North America has to offer, the pursuing elk with archery gear is undoubtedly one of the toughest. And, in a state like Colorado, each elk hunt is as physical as it is mental, as the terrain often requires you to trek through unbelievably rugged terrain all in hopes of spotting a bull. Even if you do spot one, getting close enough for a shot is another matter altogether, unless course, you’re Tim Wells who certainly knows his way around a bow. In what may be his wildest hunt ever, he harvests a giant Colorado elk at an unfathomable 120 yards with a bow. While this entire hunt is littered with fun flashbacks, you can fast-forward to the 23-minute mark if you want to skip ahead to the shot in question.

We’re at a loss for words with this one. Only Tim Wells would attempt something this wild, as so few even have the skills required to take this kind of shot. However, as impressive as this shot was, it did appear the elk flinched just a hair after the shot which resulted in a slightly high hit, but it seems he was lucky enough to still hit the lungs. Obviously, this is not something he just did off the cuff, as he even mentioned after the recovery that he practices this shot daily on his home range. I guess you could say all that preparation paid off with a last-day bull that would probably escape most hunters.

The lag in time between the sound of the shot and seeing the arrow enter the frame and impact underscores just how far this shot was. Impressive stuff, Tim. We may never be this good at archery, but it sure is fun to watch someone who is!
