There have not been a lot of Trout Slam entries coming in, but there have been a few.  Time to give an update and get certificates mailed out. . . .

In case you forgot, the Trout Slam is an angler recognition program we initiated a couple of years ago.  We started it to highlight our cold-water fisheries around the state.  Those are some beautiful places, and there are beautiful trout in those waters.  All a person has to do is catch one each of the four species of trout swimming in Nebraska; brown, brook, rainbow and cutthroat.  Enter a photo of those catches and you will receive a Trout Slam certificate and hat pin to commemorate the accomplishment.

So far this year, we have had eleven anglers complete a Trout Slam.  Two of those anglers have completed the Trout Slam twice.  Two more have completed the Slam three times, and one has completed it four times!

I am not going to list the anglers here.  They will be listed on our Trout Slam page.

Most of the fish entered for a Trout Slam have been caught & released!  The most difficult to catch continue to be brookies and cutts.

Gotta show some photos:

Scott Buss has completed the Slam three times now.  He always takes great photos:

Patrick Marshall got after ’em early this spring, back when there was still snow on the ground.  Remember that?  By the way, Patrick caught all of his fish in one day:

Who doesn’t love a smiling kid holding fish?  For example, I believe Joseph Sabata might be our youngest Trout Slam recipient so far!

Congratulations to those anglers who have completed their Slams!  Your certificates and pins will be coming in the mail.

For the rest of us, the fish are still out there.  It just takes some time on the water!
