The new Umarex AirJavelin Pro PCP flings arrows downrange at more than 300 fps.

The worlds of air guns and crossbows seem to be consistently blurring in recent years. One of the newest additions to this mix will probably blur them even more with what Umarex is calling an “archery air gun.” It’s the Umarex AirJavelin Pro, and it looks like a cross between a standard crossbow and an AR sporting rifle.

If you’re at all familiar with Umarex Airguns’ products, you will likely think this looks familiar. That’s because this is a variant product from the company’s AirJavelin CO2 arrow rifle. The big difference here is that this is a compressed air rifle. It refills through a male Foster quick disconnect system. The air reservoir holds approximately 4,500 psi and is regulated 1,500 psi which Umarex says is good for about 25 shots for each fill, 15 of which should be full power. The big advantage here is you do not need to keep buying Co2 cylinders. It refills in about seven minutes. Either way, these air archery airguns use high pressure air to fling arrows downrange.

Using Umarex’s 170-grain arrows, the company’s website says you can expect arrow speeds of up to 370 fps with this arrow rifle. Which is comparable to many crossbows and high-end compounds on the market today.

The company says the design of their “Straight Flight Technology arrows” allow them to receive more energy to the front of the arrow to help it fly straighter. The shafts of these arrows are carbon fiber and glass to help them withstand the high pressures of the compressed air.

Those arrows deliver about 52-foot pounds of energy to the target. It’s going to be lethal on small game while still having the capabilities to handle medium-sized game like deer and antelope. Of course, check your local regulations before going afield.

For this arrow gun, Umarex USA sells both specially designed 50 grain field tips and 50 grain three blade Innerloc Blood Bug broadheads for hunters who can use the arrow rifle on game. For optics, this arrow rifle has been fitted with an integrated picatinny rail and has M-LOK slots for mounting additional accessories.

Other features of this arrow rifle are a 6.25-pound single stage trigger, an adjustable stock, manual push button safety. It also has an ambidextrous bolt design so it can easily be used by southpaws.

The thing that surprises us the most about the AirJavelin arrow gun is the price. At $319.99, it could provide an extremely affordable entry into hunting big game with air archery rifle. Especially when you compare the price to more traditional airbows, which routinely go for $1,000 or more.
