Recently a hunter captured a cat attacking a whitetail deer in a once-in-a-lifetime trail camera photo!

Once in a while (or in this case, a lifetime), you capture something incredible on your trail cam. In this instance, a deer is being attacked by some sort of wild cat.

The only question is whether it’s a bobcat or mountain lion.

There is no consensus on ThePredatorPage as to where this photo was originally posted.

What is odd about this trail camera photo? #ThePredatorPage

If you have used trail cameras, you know it’s not too difficult to get deer on camera. Having a camera at a food source makes it exceptionally easy. However, getting photos of big wild cats rarely happens.

In fact, for the past eight years I’ve used trail cameras from clearcut edges to designated wilderness, and I can count less two dozen photos of cats. That’s less than two dozen out of at least a hundred thousand photos and videos in a predator-filled state like mine, Oregon.

With that said, I’ve never once caught an attack on camera like the one above. I have captured photos of bear chasing yearling deer and coyote chasing deer, but never the actual moment of truth.

Now that you can appreciate this once-in-a-lifetime catch, what do you think the cat is? Is it a bobcat or mountain lion?

To know for sure, we would need a better photo. It’s possible it’s a bobcat attacking a yearling whitetail or a mountain lion attacking a mature whitetail doe.

We’ll probably never know for sure.

One thing I can say with confidence is that the photo seems like the real deal. You may question whether the trail camera photo of the cat attacking a deer is authentic. After all, Facebook and the internet are full of photoshopped images.

However, as someone who uses Photoshop on a daily basis, and inspected the image closely, it appears to be the real deal.
