These hunters had an amazing experience as an elk herd moved in and began feeding around them, getting super close as the hunters sat motionless.

This is amazing. Watch this elk herd feed and gather around a hunter who sits motionless. One of the cows even gets close enough to sniff his backpack!

What an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience for these hunters, to be surrounded by elk.

It would be interesting to know if these guys had any cover scents in play here. When that one curious cow sniffed his backpack, she didn’t seem alarmed.

But then, something triggers the herd, and they all startle together like a flock of birds. Was it a movement by the hunter or cameraman? Did the cow suddenly recognize them as human? Were they scented?

It’s hard to tell, but regardless, it’s a testament to these guys that they were doing something right.

Chris Burandt shared this video and wrote the following text for it:

Probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced!! Me and my long time hunting buddy Hill Guides & Outfitters sat here for 15 minutes watching this group of elk do what they do. Watching the bull hearding his cows this close was incredible.

Hill Guides & Outfitters operates out of Parshall, Colorado.

Well done, fellas. Very cool.
