It is the eve of the Memorial Day weekend; the unofficial, official start to summer.  I know many of you have big plans for the weekend, camping, boating, picnicking, and yes, of course, FISHING!  We are right in the middle of May-June, some of the best fishing of the year, every year, on waters all over the state for a variety of species.  Simply put, right now, do not ask where, do not ask what baits, do not pass “GO”, just GO FISH!  They are biting!

Quick tip for the weekend:  Start shallow.  Waters are still relatively cool and the best bite will still be where the water warms a bit.  Do not fish too deep, start shallow and then move deeper from there.

Also, be sure to wear the life jackets, use the kill switch, keep your eye on the weather, and HAVE FUN!

I have seen this meme making the rounds on the interwebs this week, and I believe it is very appropriate:

MemorialDay

Just once I have taken a trip “back east”.  My sister lived in Pennsylvania for a while after she married.  On that trip my wife, son and I flew into Washington D.C., Dulles airport.  My sister and brother-in-law picked us up there.  We did not spend any time in “D.C.” seeing the sights.  We made one stop at one “sight”–the tomb of the unknown soldier.  What an awesome place, what holy ground.  During our stay we spent a day at Gettysburg.  Again, what an awesome place, what holy ground.

I know it is a big summer holiday weekend.  I know we all have plans and will enjoy ourselves.  Hopefully, if even just for a minute, sometime during the weekend, pause and remember why we have this holiday.  Many of you have family members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy a long weekend.  Do not forget them, never forget any of them.
