Rigging your swim baitsOne of the most common mistakes anglers are making is rigging their swim baits with too big of a hook. The over sized hooks extend so far back into the body of the swim bait that it is impeding all of its designed action, sometimes to the point that the only movement is at the tail. Keitech is a very popular swim bait company that I will use as an example. They recommend using a 2/0 hook on their 2.8, 3.3 and 3.8 Fat Swing Impact. The reason being that the hook does not extend too far into the swim bait. But yet most anglers are rigging them with 4/0 and 5/0 hooks.

Picasso has designed its Smart Mouth Plus to meet these hook recommendations. They are now available in 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 and 3/8 oz with the 2/0 hook option. And they come equipped with a 3X Strong Mustad Ultra Point hook so they can more than handle the big girls without concern about the hook straightening out. Give the Picasso Smart Mouth Plus a try. They are ideal for throwing with single paddle tails or rigging on Umbrella Rigs. More action on your swim baits can mean more fish in the live well!
