Venison Un-Sloppy Joes puts a clean spin on a comfort food classic. It features a warm, flaky biscuit enveloping a gooey, cheesy, savory Sloppy Joe filling. And the recipe is easy to follow! It is basically this: prepare the Un-Sloppy Joe venison meat mixture, spoon it into a canned biscuit, pop it into the oven and voila! Twenty minutes later you’re gathered around the table with your family smiling ear-to-ear. Un-Sloppy Joes are a great way to introduce kids to wild game. Not only does the Un-Sloppy Joe make for a fun meal, any trace of venison gaminess is virtually indecipherable in this recipe. It is a less-messy version sure to hit all the flavor and texture notes of the original Sloppy Joe.
- 1 pound of ground venison
- 1 15-ounce can Sloppy Joe sauce
- 1 can refrigerated biscuits (8 count)
- ½ cup of shredded cheese
Preheat oven to 375° F or 350° F for nonstick surfaces. While oven is heating, cook ground venison over medium-high heat until brown. Drain grease. Once venison is drained, stir in Sloppy Joe sauce (any brand is fine) and simmer for five to ten minutes.
On a flat surface, press each biscuit flat until it forms a 6-inch round. Any brand canned biscuit will do. Spoon 1/3 cup of the venison/Sloppy Joe sauce mixture into the center of each round. Sprinkle shredded cheese over meat. Cheddar cheese works especially well in this recipe but any cheese could work. Fold biscuit dough in half over filling to form a half-moon shape. Seal around the edges with a fork. Transfer half-moon biscuits on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for ten to 15 minutes until the biscuit is cooked through and golden in color.
