Congratulations to Alex Speijer for winning the recent Go Wide photography assignment with the image, “Diamond Window.”

“Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is on of Iceland’s top tourist attractions,” says Speijer. “When the chunks of ice flow though the lagoon outlet and enter the sea, some are thrown back at the beach. Temperature and wave action make them melt in crazy ways. This can result in holes in the ice. I had to use my Canon 16-35mm IS at 16mm f/16 to create this picture, with my front element just centimeters away from the ice. I had to run in as soon as the wave was receding, compose, take a few handheld pictures, then run back up the beach to keep myself and my camera dry.”
