There’s nothing more disappointing than watching a monster buck with a terminal illness.
Drury Outdoors shared an incredibly sad video on Facebook this week, but one that shows a harsh truth about Mother Nature: it’s not always pretty.
It also highlights the major threat various cervid species are facing, as diseases like chronic wasting disease and Epizootic hemorrhagic disease continue to become more of a problem.
Jayson Cooper already knew something was up when he started filming with his smartphone, but it’s hard to know exactly what’s going on when you come across a scene like this.
According to the Facebook post, the general consensus is that the deer was suffering from EHD, but there’s no way to know for sure with the information available to us.
What we do know for sure, however, is that our planet lost a beautiful animal for the wrong reasons.

I had hope when I first started watching the clip, as it kind of seemed like the deer was just semi-domesticated as a result of seeing humans frequently.
But as the footage continued to roll, it quickly became evident that I was about to see something heartbreaking.
Not only did the deer walk right over hot coals, but it then ignored all instincts when it walked straight into the deepest part of the river.
Hopefully researchers eventually find an answer to dealing with some of these devastating diseases.
There have been claims of an anticipated cure for CWD, but only time will tell if any of these measures can actually yield results.
Until that day finally comes, be sure to call your local wildlife agency whenever you see an animal showing signs of disease.
